Mp4 to Mp3 Conversion Issue

When converting an .mp4 file to .mp3 in VLC player the file output remains .mp4. The video of the file is stripped as is normal of .mp3 files but the container of the file is not .mp3. I am just trying to download some music off of youtube and I need the files to be .mp3 for music players to recognize them on my phone. I did this maybe a year ago a bunch of times and never had this issue. Any help is greatly appreciated. <3

After you click Add in the File Selection menu and then change the option to Convert at the bottom the next menu option allows you to change the format to MP3 via the dropdown menu in the middle. Here's a pix.

When you click the Browse button to take you to wherever you propose to save it to the MP3 container will already be selected. If the file type is still showing MP4 change it manually to MP3.

In Windows you need to have the Details layout enabled before you proceed otherwise you won't be able to see the file extension.

Thank you mate, just had to manually change to mp3 when saving to the destination.

Can you explain to me what do you mean by "to have the Details layout enabled"? Thanks

Right click anywhere in a Windows drive or folder and go to View ----> Details.

It makes it easier to see the file extension. Also by reducing the size of the icon, more files will be displayed in the same space.

In addition, you can expand the number of columns displayed by right clicking the "Name" header and selecting the options from there such as Date created, Date modified, Size, Authors, Tags etc.

It should be noted however that it's necessary to disable the option called "Hide extensions for known file types" in Folder Options as well.
