MP4 playback quality problem

Hi,

My first post here. If this problem had been addressed already, please refer me to the link(s).

My setup: Desktop Windows 10 Pro 64, VLC 3.0.11, with default settings except enabled full screen in playback

Problem, when playing downloaded MP4 files (720 and 1080), checkers would show up on and off at some spots. The same files played with Windows Media Player, or with Irfanview do not have the problem.

Please help. Thanks in advance.

In vlc hit Ctrl + P to open prefs and click the Input / Codecs button. At the top of the opening menu disable "Hardware-accelerated decoding" via the dropdown menu. Save, exit and restart vlc.

Thanks for the response and suggestion.

"Hardware-accelerated decoding" was already disabled.

Any other suggestion?

Try changing it to DirectX video acceleration (DXVA) in the same menu. Save, exit and restart as usual. If that fails to resolve the problem hit the big Reset Preferences at the bottom of the menu to restore defaults.

By the way, Hardware-accelerated decoding is enabled by default. Did you disable at some time or other?

The "Hardware-accelerated decoding" was not disabled intentionally, probably done by accident.
Changing it to DirectX or to Auto fixed the problem!
Thanks a lot
