mosaic with multiple instances?

Postby cyr0nk0r » 15 Jul 2020 20:55

So I have spent 3 days trying to get mosaic's working with RTSP streams to view live footage of my video cameras.
I've gotten to the step of the mosaic 'works', in the sense that I can see 4 streams at the same time but after about 10-13 seconds the feeds get pixelated and stop responding. The VLC log says too many bad frames computer slow. Which is a load of bunk. My GPU is at 10%, CPU at 20%, RAM at 30%. If I load VLC 4 times with each instance streaming 1 feed they all work fine for hours.

So my 'solution' so far has been to use a script to launch 4 separate instances of VLC with the minimal interface and specify their window sizes and x,y positions so they are right next to each other.
However I've hit several bugs that everyone seems to know about but have been present for YEARS.

x width, y height dont seem to work when calling VLC from command line. Bug reports go as far back as 2013 and this still isn't fixed in the latest version.
If I pop out the video I can specify the window size.

Also, when using this method the close buttons don't work anymore? You have to press CTRL+Q to get the windows to close.

Because of the script method I'm using with multiple instances I have to close each window individually. Not ideal.

So my question is this..... Is there a way to have a mosaic that uses a separate VLC instance for each stream?
OR
as an alternative, have multiple instances of VLC running that are all running inside a 'main' window? That when closing the main window it closes all the instances of VLC at once?
