rar files slow

Hi
Since updating to, i belive 3.0.11, starting anything rar packed is quite slow.
I started out with believing the issue was the SMB link, but even after copying the files to local SSD the issue persists.
Right now a test consisting of around 100 files in rar, rXX of around 150m a piece has taken 9 minutes right now (timed) and has not beeen started yet.
Yellow bar in bottom goes side to side still.
Unpacking the files loads it instantly, kind of as expected.
I might have a setting somewhere which i don't see regarding "unpack before play" or something.
Either way i would like to as for assist in this matter
Edit:
a smaller piece of around 30 files at around 50megs took 1:40 to load.

Please open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start the playback, and then paste the full resulting log here or on Pastebin.com if it's too long.

I just tested with a nightly 4.0 release, and that played the files instantly.
I reinstalled 3.0.11 just to try, but to no avail.
(just an update).

Yes, 4.0 should be better.

I Will try to install an older release later today. I should have done that before 4.0 actually.
I'll let you know how it goes.

3.0.9.2 works as expected.
Could there be a setting i am missing in 3.0.11 maybe ?

Having the same issue... Upgrading to 4.0 nightly is working for me as well.

Sorry for replying to an old post, but this issue is still not resolved (VLC 3.0.16 Vetinari)
I've verified on Windows 10 64bit with the 7-zip downloads of the VideoLAN web page. It seems that the issue really was introduced with 3.0.11, because with 3.0.10 there was no issue with rar-playback and even multi-parted rar-files worked.
According to the NEWS.txt in the 7-zip archive the libarchive was updated to 3.4.2, which is responsible for the support of tar, zip, rar ... decompression. So I've to assume it has to do with this update. Either the behavior of the library has changed, the API of the library differs slightly or a bug in the integration was introduced.

Extremely disheartening. This is the one task I need VLC to perform and it refuses or takes a half an hour to decide.
I had VLC set not to update before looks like I need to go back to that. This is what you get with open source I guess

I'm not sure what you expect here? The embedded libarchive was updated to 3.4.2 because of security issues. If you don't care about security issues, you can always slap the archive plugin DLL from VLC 3.0.9 onto your VLC 3.0.16 installation. Or you can take VLC 4.0 prereleases into use, with all the caveats of using a pre-alpha software branch.
But really, playing already compressed multimedia files from inside RAR is pretty dumb in the first place. It won't get much anything in compression and just hurts performance.
