Problem installing the Latest Update

When I try to install the update I get this message: "It was not possible to download a cryptographic signature for the downloaded file “c:\windows\temp\vlc-3.0.11-win32.exe” Therefore it was deleted."
What is the problem?
Thanks,
Chuck

Since I installed the latest update, all my videos are out of voice sync, i
I have switched to another player.

I'm having the same sync problem. As the video plays, the audio and video go out of sync. My quick fix is <Shift>+<Left> bumping the video back three seconds and realigning the sync. It's an easy temporary fix, but the recurring problem gets annoying.

I had this problem because my VPN was running.

I GIVE UP... I can't find any responses to this problem and I have had it for several months ... My version of VLC works mostly, but a feature I desperately need right now does not work. I was told to update to the latest version -- except it DOES NOT UPDATE because of the same problem mentioned above, and reiterated here:
It was not possible to download a cryptographic signature for the downloaded
file "C:\Users\Cyphr!1\AppData\Local\Temp\vlc-3.0.12-win64.exe". Thus, it was
deleted.
Does anyone monitor these forums? I've never used one like this before and beyond searching for keywords, I cannot seem to find anything useful regarding my problems...
Thanks in advance

Since this is related to your own download we can't tell much about a missing signature...
We need traces of the requested urls with a network dump tool
But you can also always download a release by hand
And what is your CURRENT version ?

This is most likely a problem with the Cryptographic Service on Windows 10. To resolve the issue do the following.
- Hit Windows key + R to open the Run command and type: services.msc
- Scroll down to Cryptographic Services and double click it.
- The service status should be "Running" and the Startup Type should read "Automatic".
- Assuming it reads something else on your system restart the service by making the appropriate changes and then click Apply / OK
Here's a pix of what the service should look like. I'm running Windows 8.1, but it's the same on all versions of Windows.

My computer (Win10 - 2004) has the cryptographic services running and I'm experiencing the same error when trying to update to the 3.0.14 version.

(I forgot to tell about my current VLC version, wich is 3.0.11)
I don't think that this issue has anything to do with any Microsoft component because the update process seems to be handled entirely by VLC on its own as you can see in modules like
update.c or
update_crypto.c
At least in my case it has to do with the validation of the certificate of the mirror used by my VLC installation, wich seems to be valid if I try with Firefox so I still don't understaned why the update process fails.
I've updated the
issue #24893 with my findings. We'll see what the VLC developers have to say, meanwhile I'll update my VLC manually.

I see almost a year later and this problem has not been resolved.
I just tried to update my version 3.0.4 to the latest, and get the error as well. Cryptographic service is running.
I gave up on using automatic update and tried a manual download next.
However, when I try to install it manually, I get a slew of Error opening file for writing and the listed files are all in the VideoLAN\VLC directory. Installation aborted. Apparently there are major problems with the current version, but since May 2021 not fixed?
This is on Windows 10 21H2 that has an existing version of VLC.

This can occur when you have still a VLC instance running in the background.
First, make sure to kill all running VLC processes in the task manager.
Then fully reset the preferences (the manual way) and reinstall VLC:

I did all of those things, and there were no instances of VLC running in Task Manager (at least visible ones).
But I DID find the cause. It was OBS (Open Broadcaster Software), which was running in the background. It has a VLC video source. When I shut down OBS I was finally able to install the update to VLC.
