Latest update 'breaking' MS Office on Windows10

Has anyone else had Windows10/Office2007 exe file problems since the latest VLC update was run? The only program update run since 5pm UK time was the 3.0.10 update to VLC and now all my MS Office 2007 documents/files will not run and neither will the apps open from the .exe files in the program folder. I don't understand why an update to VLC would do this, but it is the only program change between 5pm and 10pm UK time. Have tried 3 different 'fixes' - all unsuccessful, so it looks like I'll have to reinstall from the original disc - if I can find it!

Do you have Avast Cleanup on your computer?
There seems to be a problem with this program that resembles your description. Apparently an update has broken it, a new update is expected later today that will fix it.

Don't have Avast. Now looks as if it is an internal system error/corruption in file routing/hkey and is not linked to VLC - that was just coincidental! Reinstall hasn't worked - currently having to use the RUN command - but all this is now for another forum! Thanks for looking/suggestion.

Windows System Restore isn't enabled by default on Windows 10 so take the precaution now of enabling it. Should you encounter a similar problem in the future you can simply wind back the clock to a time prior to updating or installing an application instead of having to reset the whole system.
