Create a big playlist

Hi, everybody.
I use the latest version of VLC on W7 SP1 and all my mp3 files are organized like this:

folder "MUSIC" --> subfolder "ARTIST NAME" --> subfolder "ALBUM NAME" with album tracks

example:
D:\Music\Eric Clapton\Slowhand\...all MP3 album tracks

I have over 20,000 files in about 1,600 folders.

I would like to create a playlist in order to load all the music in VLC and then play tracks randomly.
If I drag the MUSIC folder (that contains everything) in the VLC screen, I should then click on EACH folder to expand it and allow the player to take into consideration the tracks contained...
If I don't do this (I've already tried many times) the selection rotates around about thirty (or something like that) tracks and always plays those.

Do you know this?
Am I doing something wrong?
How can I solve it?

Thank you.
Bye.

I have a related problem. I haven't read it yet, but if you haven't, you may want to check out https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.ph ... st#p502996.

Hi, you can change the default behaviour of the playlist to “expand“ in order to do that. But the best idea would probably be to register all of them in the medialibrary and shuffle it instead.

Hi everybody and sorry for the great delay in returning here ...

Rhoneyman, thanks for the post!
I saw the link you posted and it was exactly what I did, but as I wrote, the choice is not exactly random because it only plays the songs of 3-4-5 albums: and I have 1,500...
Sometimes it takes a song from a "new" folder but then returns from the "old" ones.
Basically he plays all the songs of 4-5 albums and then he goes to get another.

And thanks also to unidan!
But I didn't understand what he suggested to me:
"change the default behaviour of the playlist to “expand“ in order to do that"
"register all of them in the medialibrary and shuffle it instead"
Thanks for your patience!

In the meantime, I took a look around: do you think it's this latest version of VLC that doesn't make me solve my problem?
(3.0.11 Vetinari)

Thank you very much!!
