clarify what i can do

difficulty downloading a video from my phone, into windows, prompted seeking advice in a windows forum...someone there suggested downloading VLC
which I did … I can view my video fine ...and see some cool tools to give it a different look when playing back … I thought, I could do all that, basically recreate the video ( video editing) save the new version and share it how I like ( i'm referring to mostly, home made guitar / vocals shot from my android ) however, can not see how to get that going, nor if I can actually do what I just stated …. some of this looks a bit advanced for me, my limited "tech" knowledge...but would certainly appreciate any help / feedback
