Speed and Slow Motion

Postby 50centgunit » 07 Apr 2020 03:46

Hi, I'm brand new to the forum so if this topic isn't the right place, just move it or point me where I should post about this question. (This is for the Windows version of VLC)

I am actually a professional animator working on an animated short film running at 24 fps. I would need to slow down the film to 92% for the final output. I actually tried many slow motion plugins and softwares but none of the results are fluid enough.

The only way I found that works is when I playback the video in VLC and put the speed to 0.92. In that case, the video plays super smoothly without pretty much any lag or jerk. That said, I tried to export a version of the video with slow motion from VLC, thinking that the software would output it as it read it in the playback. Sadly, the output is laggy and isn't near as smooth as when I playback it in VLC.

I would like to know if any of you guys could enlight me on the subject about what plugin or process VLC do to play the video smoothly and if it's possible to export it that way so it is as smooth as when I playback it.

Thanks a lot in advance, I will wait to hear from you guys!

Hi,

Yes, it's impossible to convert the result seen with the player into a video file; too many major bugs with the GUI, or by command line!
I use VSDC (free software):

Open a new project -> Insert a video -> Window of properties, adjust the speed -> see the result with the viewer -> Export.

You should get the same result as the VLC player.

Good luck.

Ed.
