Subtitle stream help please

I have an MP4 file that claims to have a subtitle stream. VLC codec information looks like this:

Stream 2
Codec: txet
Language: English
Type: Subtitle

When VLC 3.0.8 attempts to display these subtitles it displays a dialog box that says;

Codec not supported:
VLC could not decode the format "txet" (No description for this codec)

My guess is that that the codec was coded incorrectly, maybe it should be txt.

Any suggestions?

Please open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start the playback, and then paste the full resulting log here or on Pastebin.com if it's too long.

Also upload a short sample of an original problematic file to Zippyshare.com (200 MB max) or to WeTransfer.com and then post the link to the file here.

https://wetransfer.com

If needed cut it with DGsplit and read here about how to do it:

100 MB max should be enough.

Sounds like it. It shouldn't stop you from adding your own subtitles file though. If that's in .srt format extract the downloaded file to C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\lua\extensions and then launch vlc.

Then click Subtitle ---> Add subtitle file and it should open the path automatically. https://subscene.com/ has a good collection of subtitle files.
