I apologize if this is a repeat topic, but couldn't find anything in a forum search.

I've been ripping several DVDs to my hard drive to watch during traveling. With a number of DVDs of all ages, I'm running into an issue on some of them where after I check the rip to make sure it came out okay, I see that the sound is drastically off from the video. The video seems to be much faster than the sound, often ending 10 to 15 mins before the sound. During the playback for the last several mins the last frame of the movie will freeze until the audio ends. The video just seems to be in a sped up mode. I've tried many different features buttons and other options to try to solve this to no avail.

Any idea how/if I can adjust the speed of the video recording for the rip? It doesn't happen randomly. It happens to the same specific DVDs and it's very consistent over and over on numerous attempts. Many DVDs rip fine, but certain ones are off no matter how many times I attempt it.

Might this be a copyright protection, or is there something I can do to adjust it? Thanks!

VLC may have problems with recent protection schemes.
Try to rip with Handbrake instead:

Hello, I am having the exact same problems with two DVDs: Independence Day (1996) and Top Gun (1986). I have also noted that the ripped mp4 file says it is much shorter than the original title on the DVD. I have tried HandBrake and it doesn't work either. I find it hard to believe that these DVDs have 'more recent' protection schemes since VLC v1 was released in 2010. Is there anything else you can recommend? Can I provide any debug information?
BTW, my CPU does peak out at 100% most of the time when converting. Does that make a difference?

Just in case it is a protection issue download the following dll and place it in the vlc installation folder at C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC

Thanks for your help but I tried the new DLL on two computers and it did not help. The converted mp4 still had a problem with the audio and video out of sync, and it seems to get worse farther into the movie. The same thing happened on both of my DVDs. I used the DVD, no menus and selected chapter 1. When I did not select 'no menus' the convert process just hung up, I assume on the DVD menu.

I did however find a solution that works. I downloaded DVDSmith to back up the DVDs to a folder on my computer and then used HandBrake to convert them to mp4 files.
