VLC Player for Windows not Auto Detecting Subtitles

I recently upgraded my Windows, so I had to download the VLC PLayer again, and so I just noticed this problem. Looking for solutions online, it seems there have been several solutions, all of which have been implemented in the newest version of VLC Player, and yet the problem still continues to exist. Then I read somewhere that something in the VLC Player was changed in an update many years ago, causing this bug that is isolated to just Windows users, and that using the old version 2.0.8 will work. So I tried that, and it does work, but after trying the newest VLC Player, the video quality is much better, so I would really love to have this working with the newest VLC Player.

If version 2.0.8 works with auto detecting subtitles, and the newest version doesn't, then can't something from the 2.0.8 version just be copied to the new version?

Does anyone know exactly why this bug was ignored for Windows users? It must have been over ten years now, and seems that no one has fixed it yet.

If anyone knows a solution that hasn't been posted about yet, please tell me. I've already spent a whole day trying to make this work.
