How come VLC lags at playing .ts file types?

These .ts video files are typically downloaded from web video players.

VLC still plays them, but if you try to seek, the video will pause and take several seconds to catch-up and start playing again.

1) Why is that?

2) Is there a fix?

Thank you

Hi, you can try to enable fast seek, but it is less precise.

If fast seek is disabled, VLC virtually "plays" all the file until it reaches the requested positon, because you might have to decode everything with frame dependencies depending of the file encoding.

Hi,

Thank you, I enabled Fast Seek. Problem still remains.

If I do a 30 second jump forward or backwards it takes anywhere from 5-10 seconds for the video to un-freeze and sync up again.

Audio is heard correctly during seeking.

Is this the only troubleshooting that's possible within VLC?

(I understand converting the video file will fix this, but just curious about the .ts files in particular)

Thank you

What is your hardware ? Do you have the file uploaded somewhere ?
