How to stitch individual images together to create a Timelapse video using GUI

Hi, I followed the advice found listed here, in an attempt to make a timelapse video:
https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/convert-standard-video-time-lapse/
The first stage worked just fine (create a series of .png images from a video file) however the second stage (going to Media -> Convert/Save in the Windows GUI) fails to stitch the images together as expected. I am selecting/adding all the images under File, and then click Convert/Save. Things are then somewhat different to the screenshot seen at the webpage listed above, where it shows a single source for all the files, whereas my version of VLC states Source: Multiple files selected. This makes sense though, as that's exactly what I should be doing, however under Destination file I am unable to browse to a suitable location, and instead it states again, Multiple files selected. Profile is listed as Video - H.264 + MP3(MP4) which makes sense too. Ignoring this discrepancy (which may be little more than a version issue) I click on Start.
The end result is that VLC appears to be making a "video" on a per image basis (saved back to the original timelapse image folder). I have tried various different settings under profile, searched the Net but unfortunately can find no reason why this process shouldn't be working.
One other thing I noticed too, is that .png files are not an option when adding all the files. The only way to select them is to use the All files (*) option. VLC doesn't complain though, when I do this so it may be a non issue.
I am running VLC version 3.0.6 on a Windows 7 machine. Any help is appreciated, thank you.
