Possible to have mouse wheel position control like pre VLC 3?

I would like to be able to use current builds of VLC but I like the scrolling the way it used to work too much. I mean, when you set mouse wheel to position control in the options, if you roll the wheel on video you get a slower scroll speed, and if you roll the wheel while hovering over the progress bar you get a big jump. Is there any way to change it back to the way it was?
