Hi pandalife

You dont have to "print screen" to take a screenshot, but if you really want to, just open VLC, load a movie (it doesnt matter, you wont use it), pause it.

Open a second VLC, load your movie and take screenshots from the second player.

I used the "print screen" function on the keyboard and tested your method (opening 2 VLC program) but it turned out to be a black img after pasting the captured screen shot in mspaint.

Is there any settings need to be done in my VLC in order to "print screen" ?

or is there another way of capturing screen shot instead of using "print screen" function on the keyboard ?

thanks for ur help  [/img]

Hi

I have tried it myself and it works fine.
Did you pause the first movie ?
Did you use only "print screen" or "ALT+print screen" (only the active window) ?

To make screenshots in VLC:

You have to define the Snapshot location and extension you want to use.
You can choose between *.png and *.jpg
Settings - Preferences - Video - just scroll a bit down.

The default shortcut to take a snapshot is ALT+CTRL+s.
To change the shortcut go to: Settings - Preferences - Interface - Hotkeys Settings.

You didn't mention that you have to restart VLC Player for any changes to take effect...

Thanks for the info, was quite a frustrating little problem.

Still having trouble.

I have version 0.8.1.

I've tried to go through the video tab, the hotkeys tab, so forth.
There just simply is no button that says snapshot. And when I try the hotley shortcut, it doesn't work. Any help?

I would really like to be able to take screen shots.

I would suggest updating your version of VLC.

http://nightlies.videolan.org/ Pick the 9.1 meg file as it's the install version then uninstall the old version in your Control Panel's add/remove programs.

Then look at this: viewtopic.php?t=18198&highlight=still

I get all the way to the video part of the tab and then I can't find one that says general settings. Does it not exist in this version?

If I want to use print screen I just change the output module to open gl (settings->preferences->video->output modules and tick advanced). I think you will always get a black screen with directx.

Maube this will help. I hope so.

(just click on the image)

After you are done with this, you restarts VLC, open the video and clicks Video->Snapshot, or (Ctrl+Alt+S)
(Sorry for bad english)
