Renderer to SONY TV fails (no video)

Postby tjsuominen » 07 Feb 2019 17:30

Hi all!

I'm running Windows 10 Pro, 64-bit with latest updates and 64-bit VLC 3.0.6.

When I open a file in VLC (say .MKV, .MP4 or .MOV) they start playing just nicely on my computer.

But when I choose the renderer to be my Sony Android TV (based on Android 7.0) KDXF9005, the only thing comes visible (when renderer is selected as my TV) is a grey background, filename and progress bar but NO video playing. Note: there is NO physical separate Chromecast dongle in my telly as it's "built-in" in that model.

To elaborate even further, I can start playing the same videos on my mobile (OP5) and cast that video nicely to the same TV, but NOT from my laptop. Also from Chrome browser I can cast my screen to the telly. What settings / stuff I should look for and possibly adjust / change?

Or do I need to install VLC on my Android TV?

Appreciated :)

Hey there.

I'm kinda in the same spot with my Philips 55PUS7303/12 (from Win10).
After selecting "Render" to my TV, only see 1 frozen frame of the video I'm playing (although time on the progress bar keeps running).
Casting the same video from Windows Media Player or any other source seems to work flawlessly (although I'd prefer VLC to do the job).

Can you test VLC 3.0.7 from nightly builds?

Yey! I was looking for a solution for so long. I reinstalled my windows thinking I've broken some ports or something. Tried the Nightly Build 3.0.7. Worked! My problem was redner>my tv (phillips). This worked until a vlc update about...4 months ago

Hop!

Again VLC (3.0.8 - 64-bit) has stopped rendering to SONY Android TV - Renderer > Scanning... simply does not detect the TV.

I have tried / enabled:

1) Made Windows Defender Inbound / Outbound rules for VLC
2) Changed the Transcode settings > disabled Video encoder (was "Auto")

Just a note: casting to the TV from e.g. my Google Chrome web browser works just fine, so this is an issue with VLC.

Haven't tried the nightly build yet.

BTW, can they (official release and nightly build) co-exists on Windows?

I'm having the same issue both on Ubuntu and MacOS. It's the same meaning it does detect the tv, but it doesn't play anything, it just goes to a gray screen. It's first telling me it needs to convert the video to play it.
On windows which is on a notebook(so via WiFi) it doesn't see the TV.

So what is the issue?
