Windows XP - defaulting to command line mode?

I tried to install the win32 version of VLC 3.0.6 on an old WIndows XP machine.
The result is a CMD window instead of the VLC GUI. I tried uninstalling and re-installing. I didn't see any option for where I specified operating in commandline mode. Is the GUI not available on XP?

I tried searching first, but ran into a problem. In the forum "Advanced Search" what is the procedure for searching for Windows XP? The search seems to ignore quoted strings. Searching for "Windows XP" results in a search for Windows, with XP ignored. XP by itself is also ignored. Searching for Windows is not helpful in this case.

Hi !

I have the same problem, and installing VLC 2.2.8 solved the problem.
You can download it here : https://download.videolan.org/pub/video ... -win32.exe

Furthermore, check out this post : https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.ph ... 21#p487421
And you can download other old VLC version here : https://download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/vlc/
