Every time I take a VLC snap, it comes out pinker (very noticeable in skin tones and lips get very red) and quite a bit darker. This has rendered the feature nearly unusable for quite some time now.
It might be a codec issue, but I'm at a loss as to what has been changed. This used to work just fine quite a few VLC versions ago.
A while back, I figured out that I had to toggle 3 of the 4 default -1 settings to 0 to get videos displaying at a different width than they were encoded at to VLC snap at the correct aspect ratio. That has been resolved, at least. Another bizarre thing I was observing was that if you cropped a 1080p film to 2:35:1 to remove the black gutter bars, the VLC snap would give you a green edge line, but if you left a bit of bar by cropping to 2:21:1, the green wouldn't show at all.
It also doesn't matter what encoding codec or file container is being used, they all have this issue. Is there a known codec setting that is conflicting? I thought VLC used internal codecs. Ideally, it should be capping what is visible in the display window. It's never discolored while playing.
A side issue is that for the last few versions, the "on top" setting has been off and on at random. And yes, I've "run as administrator" to try to make the settings stick. Sometimes toggling the playlist window and then the "on top" setting makes it work for a while.
