Rendering to Chromecast doesn't work

Postby vlcnoob123 » 03 Jan 2019 22:28

On a laptop running Windows 10 with the latest updates.

VLC is working fine, although it has had some issues discovering my Chromecast, but eventually I can find it.

However, the problem is that when I set "renderer" to Chromecast it just shows the title on the TV, with a black screen and a grey bar.

I can cast to it using Google Chrome or apps on my phone.

The content I'm trying to watch is IPTV being streamed through a playlist file (I believe MPEG-TS)

VLC does give me a message about encoding and CPU usage just before however

VLC Chromecast support on Android. You can use VLC for Android app to stream locally stored files to your Chromecast device. All you need to do is tap on the Chromecast button in the VLC app. While casting, you can add subtitles (they didn't work in our case), change audio track..

Thanks for the reply

The problem is, VLC on Windows has Chromecast support.. it just doesn't work properly. Even normal videos (mkv, mov, mp4) don't work.

If I wanted to use my phone to stream I would just use a proper IPTV app

Edit: I should also mention I've tried every version of VLC 3.x and even the nightly builds of 4.x and used all of them with default settings... still nothing, even MP3s don't cast

OK, this is weird. Seems that it works fine with 32-bit VLC, but 64-bit doesn't work.
