VLC will only play audio CD one track at a time and only when manually selected

Dear Forum Members and VLC Experts

My problem should be relatively simple but I can't seem to find that "simple" solution, but first let me explain the software and hardware I am using and perhaps things will become more clear:-

1) VLC v3.0.4 Vetinari
2) WinXP Pro
3) Chromecast Device
4) DVD/CD RW Player only (attached as an external F:/ drive)

I am trying to play an ordinary audio CD, via VLC, to my chromecast device and onward to my music system.

This works fine and I have no problem getting this setup going, but the problem is VLC will not auto play an entire CD, i.e. VLC will only play one track at a time then I have to manually force VLC to play each and every subsequent track afterwards. VLC just will not automatically play an entire audio CD.

I can get VLC to auto loop one track, and sometimes even two, but I cannot get it to play an entire audio CD.

I am probably missing something but I can't for the life of me see what it is.

I would be very grateful is someone could explain, in Jack & Jill terms, what I am missing but if my query requires more information or clarification then I will gladly furnish any data that will help solve my problem.

Thanks in advance

UK Bob

PS. Please note, I have tried using both "Playlist" and "Open Disc" functions but I just cannot get them to work in a way that helps me.

Seems like you changed the playlist settings to play and pause or play and stop.

Have you tried resetting preferences? To do that launch vlc and then cick Tools ---> Preferences ----> click Reset Preferences button at the foot of the menu.

Hi Guys

Thanks for your replies, for which I am very grateful, I will now reply in the order your posts were received:-

Not a bad guess but the problem started before I entered the "Playlist" and so whatever was done could not be undone from there.

Thanks for your suggestion anyway.

Hitchhiker, you're the man. You see, I've used VLC for more years than I can remember and therefore, back in the dim and distant, I must have messed about with the "Preference" settings and then promptly forgot about it.

The answer you provided was simple, elegant and undid any of the nonsense I thought was a good idea at the time. And above all, I can now play and cast my audio CDs to my heart's content.

Cheers.
