Recently got a new Android TV device and decided to try out the new Chromecast support from VLC.

First try, switched the renderer to the Chromecast, worked beautifully. Played several episodes over a few days, butter smooth, no difficulties. Honestly I was quite pleased.

Came back last evening and no good. Symptoms:
- Chromecast display just goes black, displays the item title and progress bar at the bottom, but then nothing
- stopping VLC keeps the chromecast icon on the screen
- no audio or video displayed
- VLC either doesn't show any progress (timer bar does not advance) or counts up normally but with no other change (I haven't quite gotten the difference here yet but it appears to be first vs. subsequent tries of the same file with just a stop in between vs. a full restart of VLC)
- Chromecasting via Chrome to the same device works fine
- Casting from VLC fails for all files (ex: mp4, mkv, different episodes of same show, etc, all fail)

I've searched the forums and the internet and tried several workarounds including:
- restarting the AndroidTV device
- resetting VLC's preferences and cache
- ensuring I was on the latest build of VLC
- reinstalling VLC
- restarting the PC
- Reinstalling VLC results in the security permission/firewall dialog on first try to contact the chromecast, but then with the same blank screen

Having the same problems, VLC finds all chromecast devices. Makes connection, shows the titles, says cast is playing but no sound nor audio. And VLC looks like it is in pauze mode. W10 64bits VLC 3.0.4

I have a similar problem to the above. The only difference is I'm casting from a MacBook Pro to an Android TV (Sony A1).

The symptoms are the same, however I can get a very small number of Youtube videos to play (maybe 5%). I've put an example below of a working one, in case anyone wants to try it to see if it also works in their set-up.

I cannot cast any videos from my LAN storage.

ps - I'm aware this is the Windows part of the forum but I thought sharing my info would be useful as it should show that it isn't a problem restricted to Windows.

Just want to pop in and say I am also having this exact same issue and have tried the same workarounds in the OP. Has worked fine since I started using this setup in July then a few days ago it stopped out of the blue.

I am a big fan of VLC and I really don't want to find another video player, open to any tips or suggestions.

What is the chromecast device that your're using ?

Probably more relevant is the specific versions of AndroidTV and the built in chromecast app. I can look those up later if folks need.

Chromecast version is 1.36.140076
AndroidTV version is 7.0

I fixed my problem. I used an external Chromecast adapter. The in-built Chromecast of my Sony A1 OLED for some reason doesn't work as well as the 'real' Chromecast. Pretty disappointing, given it's a SOTA TV.

I also upgraded the youtube.lua file to the latest code.

Came to post a new thread but found this one - having same issue.
First - Trying to play any local files and stream to nexus player, either black screen with title or sometimes first frame and that's it. Moving the seeker on VLC player moves the image on TV to that spot, displaying just one frame.
Debug just says:

Second - Trying to render SopCast stream - same issue, only shows first frame. Debug shows as follows:

stream_out_chromecast warning: Unexpected RECEIVER_STATUS with state Buffering. Checking media status

Uninstalled/reinstalled VLC, reset nexus player - nothing works.
Firewall enabled, win 10 64 bit, VLC 304 Vetinari

Hi, maybe it's a profile or other parameter issue. In this case we could try improving the transcoding parameters.

I just wanted to come back to this thread to report that even with 3.0.6 (jenkins@72...812) this is still happening. The channelmaster device has also received a couple minor updates with no change.

For anyone still tracking, at least as of 3.0.7.1, this appears to be working just fine in the mainline! Thanks to the entire VLC team.

I need help please:

if I stream any video file or youtube to chrome cast everything works fine;

however if I stream the sop cast player the cast from VLC to chrome cast stops after few seconds???does anyone has any idea why this happens please?

I have a problem very similar to that above. I can cast any video file from a local storage it's casting just well but when I try to cast IPTV it stops casting after some time, half a minute or so every time.
I tried 3.0.7 and 3.0.9 versions, any difference, 4.0 doesn't start on my system.
