VLC becomes unresponsive after 20 seconds

First of all, i tried reinstall, virus scan, registry fix, none of them worked. My problem is that when i start to play any video file it works well until a certain amount of time passes (20) secs. The movie continues to play, i am able to change volume with my mouse scroll wheel, but that's it, the GUI is completely unresponsive, keyboard doesnt work, mouse click doesn't work, i cannot exit, i cannot minimize the window, i cannot see the video menu in the bottom, i can't access the menu tab, i can only quit the program through task manager. I have no idea what might cause the problem, my pc works well, only VLC has this issue.

Please follow instructions in the orange box to create a log file.
To help you, we need
messages, to completely understand what your problems is.
To fix this, please be sure
before you start the playback to:
- Open: Tools -> Messages.
- Set Verbosity to 2
- Start playback to reproduce your issue
- Save text in a file or copy into clipboard
- Then paste the full resulting log here between
and
(or use Pastebin.com if it's too long)
Also don't forget to name your
Operating System and provide the
VLC media player version.

So as i stated vlc becomes unresponsive after 20 secs, i cannot save the file you requested, i only made a screenshot. No error messages, no crashes, no "not responding" message, it becomes plain frozen, except for the video, sound. windows 10 pro, 3.0.4 version

Hi,
The picture is not visible. is the program using a lot of memory?
It would be difficult to understand without more information on your setup, antivirus, running software, etc, especially if logs are useless here.
So only the video + sound is working? You can try another video renderer in the settings, d3d9 for example.

https://imgur.com/a/d5LldWm this image was taken after it became unresponsive. Also vlc does not use any resource in task manager, and I don't need to do anything on vlc, or play anything to make it unresponsive, it just happens after 20 sec no matter what.

Sadly this does not resolve my problem, since the problem is with the app rocess i think, it gets frozen on open without doing anything, but windows does not reconize as it's really frozen, i can only exit via end process

I am having this exact issue right now, but I have some more details, I have 2 PCs both windows 10 probably different builds, but the VLC version is exactly the same, one works perfectly but the other does not, however I cannot create said log file following said instructions due to completely loss of control of the client, when this happens, the video output keeps playing, so does the audio, windows does not identify the program as not responding, however even the X on the VLC window does not work.

Hello,
I'm encountering the exact same problem as OP and a few others :
os : Win 10 Pro Version 1803
vlc versions tested : 3.0.0, 3.0.5, 3.0.6
-VLC stop responding after about 20 seconds (even without opening any file). No error messages, but the interface is dead and I have to manually kill the process.
-After the "silent death", task manager shows no cpu usage, and very little ram used.
-No crash at anytime, and Windows thinks the program is behaving normally.
-If I started playing a video when vlc wasn't dead yet, the video playback will continue normally with sound and subtitles, but I can't stop it or pause it, even with keyboard shortcuts.
I can only change audio volume with mouse wheel.
-If I started a conversion when vlc wasn't dead yet, the conversion fails silently (the created file is corrupted and way too small)
-When activating the message console, there are no errors or warnings, and on "debug" (verbosity=2), just the logs of opening a video file.
-I tried compatibility mode with win7, and running in admin mode, nothing different.
I tried vlc version 2.2.8, It's slightly better, with the interface being just very slow and half-broken
Unfortunately, the program is unusable since can't open a video file without a crash.

Hi, are you using ASUS GPU tweak software? I had a real issue with this horrible program, which was blocking my macros with alt + a, but when I removed it from PC it also removed that issue with VLC you are talking about.

I have a Dell XPS 3700 Running Windows 10 63bit. I also have a Seagate USB external drive.
I recently had the same problem. I am using a wireless mouse and keyboard which I originally had the sensor plugged into the back of my tower.
If I copied the video file to me C:drive, I did not have the problem.
I recently moved the sensor to the front of the tower. I wondered if that could be the problem.
After moving the sensor back to the back of the tower, the problem went away.

i had the same problem.
and closing the asus tweeck return control of VLC.
but i want to give my experience when the problem happen.
the interface with VLC stop after 20 second.
i had asus tweeck worken and vlc without any problem in the past.
it start when i first start playing my first game that use asus tweeck to show GPU use inside the game.
vlc will not responded to mouse right click.
vlc will take 30 sec to fix video to fit screen after resize with mouse.
vlc respond with keyboard special key for video control.

I don't appear to have ASUS Tweaker but I'm having the same problem. I was not able to save the bug report because the software becomes unresponsive.
Using a Dell Inspiron 5558, Windows 10 Home 64 bit build 18362, Intel HD Graphics 5500, version 20.19.15.4835

Changing Video->Output from Direct3D11 to OpenGL for Windows solved the problem in my case. Btw. the solution was idea of GPT-3.5.
