VLC won't parse unicode M3U's?

M3U's play fine when reffering to files with only ASCII letters. But a similar M3U containing umlauts like the one below won't play at all. The files play well when added individually, however.

Code: Select all

Should have mentioned this is with VLC for Win 0.8.4 on XP SP2, BTW....

Same issue persists in 0.8.5-test3: Similar m3u's with only "english" characters play fine, while this containing letters with umlauts won't play at all. This should really be fixed....

There's little chance that we can arrange a fix within the 0.8.5 release time frame.

You should ensure your playlist is encoded in UTF-8 instead rather than Windows-1252.

Yes. Thanks. It works with UTF-8 encoded M3U files, both DOS (CR/LF) and UNIX (LF) filetypes, and both with or without BOM. That's good. The original (problematic) playlist are Winamp-compatible M3U as written by EAC.

This is one of the main problems with M3U, and a big reason why it should be deprecated.
