Why do subtitles in VLC 3 look so bad?

The font looks like a squished Courier New, despite the font settings.

Subtitles or Captions ? that's different
:!: If you want your problem to be solved :
* First read troubleshooting guide VSG:Main
* Always provide verbose LOGS ! (command line or from gui)
* Always check your issue against a developer build from Nightly Build of VLC
* Tell us when your problem is solved !

I think he means the subtitles. I've had this 'issue' too. Only not all the time. Subtitles look like that once in a blue moon.

Subtitles or Captions ? that's different
Hi InTheWings, thanks so much for helping out,

So I'm used to hitting the key command "V" to bring up subtitles. Often times the text looks like this (never looked like this in VLC 2.x)

But let's entertain that idea of captions. Say it was captions - what is the difference in determining captions appearance as opposed to subtitles appearance?

Is there an option to style what the captions look like?

If yes, where can that be found?

If no, where can I make a request to have that feature included in upcoming updates?

Thank you

Captions have Monospace font by regulations, and the way they use Row Column positioning.

See Codec Info. Captions are 608
