Newly added videos on external hard drive don't play.

VLC MP version; 3.1.0.70
A bit of a strange one but I'll try to explain...
All movies newly added to my hard drive won't play on my Xbox one S through the VLC media player or the Microsoft film app.
In VLC the movie will show up in browser and in the videos section but ifvi try to play it an error message pops. "Your input can't be opened".
What's interesting with the movies that won't open, when I look through them in the video section the time length of the movie shows as 00:00 The movies that do open show up with the proper time length 01:30:14 for example.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the VLC app but that did nothing.
I can still play those movies through VLC on my PC when connect my hard drive up. They just don't play on my Xbox one S in the VLC player.
I also copied one of the movies that wouldn't work to another external hard drive and tested that on the VLC player. This worked just fine!!
I tested in Microsoft's film/TV app and those same videos that don't play in VLC also don't play in the Microsoft app. So I'm not sure if it's anything to do with the apps, that it could be something related to the Xbox one S reading the external hard drive.
I thought the max external hard drive size was 16tb. I could be wrong but it seems like it could be a 2tb limit issue?
This is only pretty recent, anyone having the same issue?
Any ideas on how to fix this?
Anything would be great thanks. I don't want to have to move 2.4Tb of data just on the off chance it might fix it.
