vlc 3.0.4

Postby swansojb » 09 Sep 2018 16:32

Installed VLC 3.0.4 yesterday. Not sure what the previous version IO was using was, but as I use VLC regularly, I expect it was 3.0.3.
I am now finding as soon as I open this version that my CPU use increases hugely, and the videos only play sparodically.
Using the Windows task manager, CPU usage rates are high for VLC and a couple of windows items, Com.surrogate & appmodel and are so high such that CPU usage is at 99%, and causes stuttering in videos. Cannot even get a DVD to play anymore. After a few seconds, VLC just shuts down.

I hav tried another video player and it runs OK (Cyberlink Power DVD versions 12 & 18).

Anyone else had this problem and solved it?

NB using Windows 10 64 bit

I saw a fix for 3.0.3 and it worked for me. Under tools/preferences:
Codecs/hardware accelerated decoding-disable
Video//output- Direct3d9 video output

I did the first part
tools/preferences/Codecs/hardware accelerated decoding-disable

and it was much improved.
Also tried the second fix and found it had a negative effect, so undid it and programme running OK again.
