That filter should be automatic, that is why.

ok step by step this is what i do...
load video
effects crop
enter values for in my case left/right
Preferences enter left/right numbers in crop field
Media convert
add video same, open
convert save
video codec filters video crop filter save
browse rename video save
start
after convert i only get the audio portion not the video.
