VLC starts muted

I'm using VLC 3.0.3, and I noticed it keeps muted from one session to another, if I end a session with the sound muted, while in previous version it always started with the audio on and at the level I set in preferences; is this a wanted behavior? Would it be possible to have a setting to make VLC always start with sound on?

Hi,

In tool > preference > audio, you can try to set "Always reset audio level to:"

I did, but if I close VLC with it muted, the next time I open it it starts muted.

Yes, I think it's by design and I find it useful.

In the older versions it wasn't like that, if I'm not wrong, and I'd love an option to disable it: I never start it muted, but sometimes it happens I close it while muted.

This really should be changed. "Always reset audio level to" implies it's not going to be affected by mute status, but for some reason it is.

VLC needs an option like "remember mute status", or the audio level slider in that setting should just have a "mute" checkbox. It's pretty annoying having to unmute and mute so often just because the previous window was different.

Ideally, there should be an "--unmute" command-line option, but none exists as far as I can see.
