VLCx64 3.0.3 immediate crash on start when hardware acceleration is deactivated

Hi,

Gamma adjusting does not work for me. So I followed the advice to disable hardware acceleration.

Now I can't even start VLC anymore, crashes directly. I don't know if there are logs or where they are saved. Only thing I could find is the crashdump attatched.

Reboot didn't help.

Best regards,
BlackRitus

VLCx64 3.0.3
Windows 8.1x64 with latest updates
Modifications (both without problems):
- pause-click-plugin
- Ran the VLC Remote setup helper

Crashdump
Laptop specifications

/edit
I can reliably reproduce crashes with that setting. If I copy back my old config from [...]\AppData\Roaming\vlc it works normally again.

Enable HW acc and in Video set output to Direct3D9. Doesn't work with Direct3D11. Didn't tested on other outputs.

Hmm, I only have the choice between
  • automatic
  • Direct3D11
  • Direct X video acceleration (DXVA) 2.0
  • deactivated
If Direct X is chosen, it also crashes.

What is your driver version?

@Firestorm
I'm so sorry, seems like I didn't read properly and was in the wrong tab.
Disabling Hardware acceleration in the Input/Codecs tab and setting Video output to Direct3D9 in Video tab --> output solved my problem.
Gamma works, no crash.

The list written above was the dropdown for HW acceleration.

What about Direct3D9 and DxVA?

Not sure what you mean.
Direct3D9 and disabled HW acceleration solved it (both crash and gamma).

Thanks for your help!

Ah ok.

With Direct3d9 and DxVA 2.0 HW acceleration no crash, but gamma doesn't work.

Does it decode with intel or nvidia card?

It's decoding with internal intel chip (as far as I can tell - don't know where to reliably look that up).
Trying to force the nvidia chip in the nvidia system settings to work on vlc.exe is impossible, the dropdown is greyed out.

Greetings!

VLC 3.0.3 Vetinari running on Windows 7 x64 fully updated.

I have the same issue when open a video file with VLC by default using double click in Windows Explorer.
If I start VLC alone, then no crash happens.

Setting Hardware Acceleration to Disabled in the Input/Codecs tab and setting Video output to Direct3D9 in the Video tab had no effect --- VLC crashes.

What else can I try?

Thank you.
