VLC is suddenly unable to capture video from a HDMI capture device

Postby SirValeq » 31 May 2018 22:42

I was using VLC to capture video and audio from a HDMI cable (connected to a device from my TV provider) using this device: SUNWIN Velocap HD82A PCI-E HD Capture. It was working fine for months, along with other players like MPC.
Then a few weeks ago, after some Windows updates, I get the following error:
"Capture failed: The device you selected cannot be used, because its type is not supported."
and there is no video.
The audio is still there, though. Other players don't even have this (no video and no audio).

Can anything be done about this? The capture device is old and there are no new drivers.
I'm guessing it is some software issue (probably with Windows), because the device works fine when used straight to my monitor's PIP (fine as in there is video).

Hi please check following:
1.The card through which u are capturing the hdmi output of any settop box must have a driver and software
. Please check if that software is able to capture the media.
1a)If not than the driver+software of this card needs to be uninstall and reinstall .
1b)If yes than it is the resolution issue .To check it, you will have to see what resolution is being used by that setup box which is connected to your capture card.If it is high resolution (1080p) than the VLC can't capture it properly. If it's lower than that VLC will capture it fine.
Please revert back in case either case .
Regards
Adi
