Undesired image displayed while listening mp3

Postby azertie » 30 May 2018 11:13

Hi,

My issue does not seem to be linked to the VLC version because I uninstalled the previous one, choosed to delete data in cache and install the current version and it did not change anything.

I use VLC to listen to mp3 files. Generally, an image is then displayed on the screen, either the vlc logo or an image linked to the album. But for some mp3, I get an other image wich is ugly. As the resolution is low I cannot see very well what it is about, but a big nude foot is visible in the foreground. I think this image comes from a series I watched several months ago, because it looks like an element of the "générique" (= credits ? I did not found the english translation) which included a corpse photo shown under this perspective.

I don't understand how this picture was recovered by vlc and why it is displayed for some mp3 files whatever the vlc version. How could I find the location of this image and/or a vlc option which would help me to make it disappear ? Thanks for any help.

Maybe try with a mp3 tag tool https://www.mp3tag.de/en/. This one is free and open source, simple and functional. Open a mp3 with this tool and you can view the metadata and change them, including the image associated with this mp3. Disable in VLC the online search of the metadata to.

Likely google image results for your mp3 embedded metadata.
Disable network access/metadata from the preferences.
:!: If you want your problem to be solved :
* First read troubleshooting guide VSG:Main
* Always provide verbose LOGS ! (command line or from gui)
* Always check your issue against a developer build from Nightly Build of VLC
* Tell us when your problem is solved !

Thank all for your answers. I made what you suggested.

The disabling of network access changed nothing.

I tried the tool. For mp3 embedding their own image, I can see this one. But for the images polluted by the ugly one, nothing appears. It is not surprising for me because this image is external, i.e it does not belong to the mp3. It seems that if an mp3 does not contain any image, then the ugly one is displayed to replaced it. It should have been the VLC logo... The search has to be made in the VLC options but I did not find any trace of the image. Or maybe in the hidden files associated to VLC in AppData or elsewhere (?).
