no audio when playing video

I have the VLC 3.0.1
If I play a video that has aac, it plays fine, but whan I play a video, (such as Star Wars The Last Jedi) that has AC3 audio, there is background sound but no voices.
It plays fine on my Cyberlink Power DVD. Can anyone tell me what is wrong? And how can I fix it?
I would appreciate any help.
Thank you

I think your output setting is surround.
From "Tools" - "Preferences", click "All'.
Select "Audio" - "Output modules" - "DirectX".
Select "Speaker configuration" to "Stereo" or to your audio system.

I'm sorry, but that did nothing.
Anything else?

Is your audio output device is "DirectX"? Check if not, choose "DirectX" as follows;
Select "Tools" - "Preferences".
Click "Audio" button at the top.
Select "Output module" as "DirectX audio output".
Press the "Save" button.

PS:
Make sure to press the "Save" button after you change preferences. If you have done with my original reply, please do so. Your problem is about surround track to stereo conversion issue.

Thank you jayR it works!

Previous AC3 files were working last year because my version was 2.2.1 with default settings (I have stereo system with S/PDIF (toslink) but with 3.0 release and higher even nightly daily 3.0/4.0 builds it didn't work with default settings
