I have been using VLC for years and when I use it on my Windows 7 laptop its a very long lag playing videos. It can take anywhere from 30 seconds to 20 minutes to play a video. I tried just setting up playlists but that didnt help either. I updated the software to current and still didnt help my problem and searched on here but couldnt find recent help. Is there something im doing wrong? thanks for any help

Hi,

Can you provide some logs ? You can get them from tools -> messages by setting the verbosity to maximum.

So I updated the player to the newest version via the website and my lag is really long. I removed the entire VLC software and did a new install and i dont play it with subtitles until it actually plays and i cant get videos to play it takes anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes and its all videos. I looked to set verbosity to maximum but i dont have that option and when i go to messages i show this

direct3d11 error: Could not Create the D3D11 device. (hr=0x80004001)
direct3d11 error: Direct3D11 could not be opened

20 minutes to start? Can you disable hardware decoding in preferences?

yes I was getting a black screen with only sound so I found an article to fix that but still takes 2-5 minutes to start. I checked my video card, reinstalled the drivers to those and seems any video player I try takes a while to actually open. I know i need to get a new laptop but I have to work with what I have until I can get a new one. thank u for the help. If anyone can help this technically challenged person please

How did you install it ? Do you have a file VideoLAN\VLC\plugins\plugins.dat ? If not you can drag & drop the plugins folder over vlc-cache-gen.exe and it will generate it.
The installation should have done it though.

So i was running on a very bad hard drive and it finally died, I had a new HD put in and they had to reload the software and my vlc is still taking sometime to open. Im not sure what the aboved instructions are for or if should try to remove the entire software and try again or if its the graphics card. (regular videos like YT play fine though)
