Recording with sound

Hello all.
Lately, when I press the red circle to record, and let some of the video play, and press it again, I get clips with no sound.
There is obviously some detail that's wrong. What's maddening is that I got a perfectly good recording a couple of times, and then the sound dropped out. Also, in my file directory, the clips with no sound only have the orange cone and no image from the movie.
Any help would be appreciated!
