Please help saving “cropped” video

Postby jimbanville » 13 Mar 2018 21:09

If I crop the video in vlc and I “press” record while cropped video is playing, it records the entire, original full video rather than just the cropped portion. Can someone please tell me what I’m doing wrong? Thanks!

You must transcode video with "Video cropping filter". Check my recent post about saving video with "Logo video filter": https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.ph ... 02#p469481

OK. I'm missing something.
I opened the video in VLC. Played to a certain scene and paused video.
I went to tools>adjustments/effects>video effects>crop.
I sent the top, bottom, left, right numbers to crop video just as I wanted and pressed the bottom/right close button in that window.
Under ESSENTIALS. I checked that IMAGE ADJUST box and adjusted the brightness and gamma.
I then went to top/left and clicked on MEDIA>Convert/save, which opened a MEDIA SAVE window.
I selected the file I had adjusted and paused.
I then pressed the bottom/right CONVERT/SAVE button.
I go down to the profile line and click on the little wrench/screwdriver button that says "edit selected profile".
Under VIDEO CODEC, I go to FILTERS, scroll down to video cropping filter and check that box and press save.
I type in a destination file name on my desktop for the new video and press START.

The result is a new video that has not been cropped. It looks exactly like the original file :(
What am I doing wrong? THANKS

I do not know why the video cropping filter does not work the easy way like other filters. You can set the cropping values in VLC preferences: Tools > Preferences > Show settings=All > Video \ Filters \ Croppadd.
For adjusted brightness and gamma you must enable "Image properties filter" in selected transcoding profile.
