This option is greyed out on the latest update. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Having had trouble with Windows Vista screen saver invading screen every 8-10 minutes while playing a disc with VLC media player 3.0.0 I am advised that this is a known glitch and will be overcome with the new 3.0.1 version coming out soon. However in the meantime before that I uninstalled the programme, re-started my PC and installed VLC 3.0.0 again and NOW I HAVE NO AUDIO!! Under the audio menu audio is shown as 'enabled' but I am unable to un-mute the mute function.
Can anyone help me with this, have I clicked some 'setting' level by mistake or something.
This is so frustrating, a solution would be most welcome,
Kind regards,
CapnDave
