Video saved from DVD never playable - why?

Hi all...

For years I've tried to save bits of video from DVDs using VLC; it has never worked. At first I thought it was a bug that would be fixed, but it still doesn't work, even to this day.

When I click the "record" button while playing a DVD, it records to a file. However, if I try to play it back in VLC itself, there is only audio. If I try several other major video playing programs, it either won't play or is scrambled. If I play with Cyberlink Power DVD, it plays correctly.

Does anyone else have this problem? Can someone explain to me what I might possibly be doing wrong?

I have not. I didn't even know it had been released. I shall give it a try!

Meanwhile, I found that Handbrake works reasonably good for the initial extraction, then I can use VLC for editing the clip, and THAT works.

But I'll try the new release - thanks!

I think you should start your own thread, @pebb152 - your issue has nothing to do with mine.
