I "forced" the Audio device output (DirectX), now Volume control is responsive. I don't know if this is the real "trick", or only causality :-)

Also, now i can force a % to start from when VLC open up.

Yes, this is a current limitation.

That fixed it for me as well, thanks.

This didn't work for me, is there any other solution?

Don't push the volume over 100% - which Windows does not allow/support. Instead, increase the volume on speaker and keep VLC between 0 and 100%.

Then it won't be slow.

I registered an account just to reply to this message.

So far I have read about 10-15 different posts about this issue on forums and bug trackers. Of those posts, exactly none of them mention using the volume above 100%. In fact, a fair amount of them mention they aren't using the volume over 100% when this response is given.

The fact that there is significant lag when adjusting the volume with the scrollwheel BELOW 100% is the problem. It persists in 3.0.6 and I can't even add to tickets on the bug tracker because they get closed immediately with non-responses like this one.

The bug is STILL present. It is present BELOW 100% volume. Please reopen your tickets and stop closing them prematurely, or assuming that people are doing something they aren't.

I'd be happy to help with any other information/testing is warranted.

To note:
-occurs BELOW 100% volume
-in my experience it seems to be tied directly to the workload of VLC (i.e. low resolution/bitrate videos seem to have no issue, while high resolution/bitrate/framerate videos are generally problematic)
-win7 x64, 8GB RAM, x5470 cpu, gtx 750ti 2GB gpu

Volume above 100% is the most common and best known reason for volume to be slow. Just because this does not apply to you, does not mean that we deprive affected users of potentially useful infos, nor does it mean that you can berate me.

But patch welcome anyway.

same problem and same observations as keener31 here, and this is occuring since years ( with volume below 100%)
