Nasa Tv streams won't play anymore.

Postby colin1951uk » 25 Jan 2018 18:33

I'm not able to watch Nasa tv streaming via Vlc player anymore and I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed this.

This is one of the m3u8 streams I've used in the past (and it's still one of two Nasa uses today): https://nasa-i.akamaihd.net/hls/live/25 ... aster.m3u8 but it wasn't working on Tuesday when I tried to view a spacewalk and it isn't working today.

Vlc now says it can't be opened where as I have been using it for over a year without problems.

Before if I typed the stream url into a browser I would get the option to either open it or save it to open later but if I try it now I'm told File not Found and this seems to be why Vlc can't play it anymore.

I think what's happened is akamai may have stopped people from using it directly via ip protection or other means (I can't see the use of a token requirement or other security via Nasa's website.)

So I was hoping someone could check the stream url out and see if they get similar results to me. If it is just me then I'll start some serious trouble shooting and check with my provider just in case they might be blocking it for some reason.

Hoping for some comments.

Cheers...Colin

Ok, thanks for the help everyone.

Forbidden server says it all, akamai have stopped the public from directly accessing their server, so that's that.

I'll try using the Nasa live feeds on Youtube, but so far Vlc player freezes up after a few seconds of playing them, but I hope to get somewhere after working out the direct feed which seems to be flv.

Google never make things easy!

Cheers.
