Hello. I get error on Windows 10 VLC 4.0.0-dev x64 when trying to cast to Chromecast from VLC.

My Chromecast works fine via Chrome, Plex and Emby.

If you follow this guide https://www.howtogeek.com/269272/how-to ... hromecast/ it tells that "you’ll see an “Insecure site” prompt. Click “View certificate” to view your Chromecast’s security certificate." but the popup never shows up when clicking Play.

My error log:

gnutls error: Certificate verification failure: The certificate is NOT trusted. The certificate issuer is unknown. The certificate chain uses insecure algorithm. The name in the certificate does not match the expected.
main error: TLS session handshake error
main error: connection error: No error
stream_out_chromecast error: cannot load the Chromecast controller (Failed to create client session)
main error: stream chain failed for `chromecast{ip=my_internal_ip,port=8009}'
main error: cannot start stream output instance, aborting

What is gnutls and where is it on Windows? Was it installed together with VLC? Why there has to be TLS connection in first place when trying to cast from PC to TV with Chromecast on internal network via Wi-Fi? Why any other Chromecast service like Plex or Emby or Chrome itself doesn't require TLS?

I think that Chromecast requires TLS. Besides, how would the Chromecast device or the casting application know that they are on a secure "internal" network?

So does that mean all other platforms stream to chromecast through TLS too? Because they all work, Chrome, Plex, Emby, they don't throw the error.

VLC send nothing to Chromecast on a BBox Miami.

It works fine for Chromium Version 63.0.3239.84 (Official Build) Built on Ubuntu , running on LinuxMint 18.3 (64-bit)

Is there any log file to read what happen or doesn't happen ?

My computer use an Intel I5, could it be an explanation ?

Make sure you have the very latest version of GnuTLS, 3.5.17. Previous versions are known broken.

And mind forum rules too...

Uninstall current vlc player and then install latest version of vlc nightly version and then follow steps from below site to cast from vlc to chromecast, hopefully this will work for you

Just clean installed 3.0.0. Unable to cast anything to chromecast ultra. Casting kind of starts but looks like buffering or something and playback never starts. tried some mp4 and mkv files which cast fine on other windows software.

Same here, It has the bar on the bottom going from left to right like it's buffering and trying to start, but it never actually starts the video.

I'm having this same problem from a fresh clean install of 3.0

Videos just show a progress bar endlessly scrolling from left to right, and audio just shows a chromcast icon and nothing else.

I didn't see any certification error or message to accept at any point, which seems to common with this problem.

Has anyone figured it out?! I've been waiting for 3.0 for literally years for chromecast support...

Same here, impossible to cast anything. I just have the blue progress bar going on...
After a while the play just stops.
I don't have a chrome cast ultra, just a standard one, and it's working perfectly with youtube and Airflow.

Same problem here; i can cast sound to my Google Home, but not (neither sound not videos) to my Chromecast. I am badly disapointed. I had been waiting for so long for this feature !
I understand that, as a fix, GnuTLS 3.5.17 or above should apparently be installed on my system (i am using Windows 10) but I do not know how to do that. GnuTLS doc is awful.
In addition, there seems to be no way to check for, or validate, certificates from inside VLC 3.0.0 HMI.
By the way, where are the VLC log files ? I was not able to find them.

I just downloaded the release version 3.0 and the Chromecast option does not work for anything -- audio or video. It did work with the nightly beta builds I was using when the render menu selection was on the video menu and the program did not identify the Chromecasts and groups with their friendly names.

Now when I select the Chromecast speaker I want and then play the audio file, nothing at all happens -- I don't get the audio feedback from the speaker indicating a connection. What I do get is the VLC render menu showing that I am casting to my selected speaker when I am not.

How can something that worked in beta be made not to work in release?

Further to my previous note, when I was using the nightly builds for v3, the first time I tried to cast after installation I received a certificate warning. Once I accepted as trusted, all was well. With v3.0 I get no warning and nothing happens.

I am on the same boat but i could kind of make it work by disabling the casting of the audio stream in VLC settings.
I think it fails to transcode the stream. I couldn't test using the passthrough option as i don't have a receiver which handle DTS streams (and I don't even know it the chromecast can handle it in the first pace anyway).

Nonetheless it worked but of course no sound AND the seeking is broken anyway. If one click on the seekbar the playback stop to buffer (I imagine) but never start back.

Back to Airflow for now

I was told in a Twitter DM from one of the vlc devs that's he thinks he fixed something to address the loading in our situation in the next release

So I guess we just wait...

The problem should be linked with sound: i deactivated sound in the audio menu of VLC, and I was able to see (at least one minute) of video on the chromecast. I Reactivated sound, and this worked fine... for one minute only, alas ! after this, the screen went blank with the blue endlessy moving progress bar.

I've tried the new nightlies and still can't get a cast. I DID receive the certificate warning this time! But after that everything was the same. So I guess they're making progress.

It works with 3.01 ! Problem solved.
