Youtube 240p: Only get 720p?

Hello (first post),

I often use the VLC Player to play Youtube videos, and it is the only way to do so on the 2001 Sony XP laptop. I found out about how the VLC Player can handle Youtube videos, and have even added the Firefox add-on to right-click and then play the video with the VLC.

But now it cannot play 240p videos, all it tries to play are 720p. All- and I mean ALL!- settings are on 240p.

It is not the Sony. The same exact problem is on the 2012 Windows 8 ASUS.

The VLC version is 2.2.6 Umbrella.

There was absolutely no problem until today. 240p videos can be played on Youtube itself; the ASUS proves this. But the VLC Player only plays 720p, no matter what I try, on both systems. Why?

Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Again, all settings are on 240p, so that isn't the problem, and that includes the add-on too.

Logged in to post the same problem and saw this thread, glad I'm not the only one.

Actually it's worse for me, nearly every youtube video is forcing the highest possible resolution, 1280p and neither my cable network nor computer handles that very well, that's why I preferred 240p. This is with 2.2.7 nightly. I can still get the 240p by copying in the link into VLC that I'm able to extract from a firefox video downloader but that's defeating the purpose, might as well just download the video. Hopefully someone from the vlc team is reading this.

Thank-you Lotesdelere, updating youtube.luac restored the preferred video resolution setting.

Just so you know it broke the youtube gaming site:

https://gaming.youtube.com/

The youtube.luac that came with the latest nightly ran those videos but the updated one doesn't.
