DVDs Play Slowly

Certain DVDs--and not all of them--have started playing strangely in VLC.
Their speed is slow, and the audio is choppy. I've tried speeding up the playback speed, but it doesn't help.
I've tried playing these DVDs using other programs and they work fine.
So...something is up with VLC. WhatinHades is going on, here?
I'm on Windows 8.1, if that helps.
