Problem streaming Youtube Video

While I have no problem getting most YouTube videos to stream (though videos from certain channels just won't stream for whatever reason), my problem is videos tend to cut off early. It's usually when there's 5% or less video left. This has been going on for months (if not a year) and I can't find any answers on it anywhere.

I'm running VLC 2.2.6 on Windows 7.

I can confirm that I've got the same problem in both of the machines I use. Running VLC 2.2.2 on both, although one is running Lubuntu 16, and the other Ubuntu 14 LTS. In my case, I've only noticed that this started happening around a month ago, though.

Not only do some of my videos also stop playing near the end randomly, but some of them also don't play at all; for the latter problem, I've noticed that it's videos from specific channels. I can play both monetized and unmonetized videos, so that isn't it.

VLC 2.2.2 is way out of date...
