Unable to play iPhone recorded 4k MOV files

Hi everyone,

VLC is struggling to play an MOV file recorded by my iPhone (There's so much lag it's not viewable, audio works fine.)

The video files are in 4K so I'm wondering if that's the problem. (video file screenshot below)

Never had issues with playing other videos but this is the first time trying to play 4k video.

My laptop is a Dell XPS 9550 - i7 and 16GB (screenshot below) is that good enough specs to handle it?

VLC is up to date, 2.2.6

Is this possible to play these videos without issues using my laptop?

Try with VLC 3.0.0 nightly build, a recent one.

Set it to use DXVA3 aka D3D11:
Tools -> Preferences -> Video
Output = D3D11

Tools -> Preferences -> Input/Codecs
Hardware accelerated decoding = D3D11 Video Acceleration

Then save, exit and restart VLC.

Wow sorry for the late reply but this worked.

Running the windows 64 bit version 3.0 nightly build from Jan 10 2018.

Awesome thank you!

Ok after using 3.0 for a few days it has more problems than it's worth unfortunately.

Guess I'll have to continue to look for a different solution or an official VLC update.

Thanks for your help!

Convert the .MOV files to MP4, that worked for me. Any Video converter should work i think. I used 3uTools to transfer files from my iphone to my PC and it did the conversion for me.
