Been using VLC for a few years and I can not figger out how to change the playback speed of an MP4 file. Is this possible?

Yes, here's how to do it:

First, display the status bar:
Menu View -> Tick Status bar

Then in the Status bar click on the 1.00x on the left of the time counter and adjust the speed there.

The Status Bar item only appears in the View menu in my version (2.2.4). I clicked it and after a few times of clicking it I then was able to find the Status Bar and the 1.00X. Thank you for helping me out!
