Cannot Get Rid of Zoom Feature in Upper Left Corner

Using version 2.2.6 on a Windows 10 machine.
Since installing this version a Zoom feature appears at the upper left corner of the display each time I start a new video. I can reset it to any particular zoom, and I can dismiss it, but every time I restart the video it reappears, and it always appears with the zoom selected, and slightly on. Furthermore the selection box always appears (and resets) to the upper left corner of the zoom display box making it impossible to see the first 2 or 3 seconds of a video from Time 0.
How can I start a video with this zoom feature set to 1:1, or how can I disable it completely?
