My VLC settings reset to normal everytime I upgrade

Whenever it asks if I want to download a newer version and install it, I have keep previous settings checked, but it always reset to default after installing, why is this?

I'm not sure about ALL settings, but some settings at least have always been the norm here. Not sure why. It's an unfortunate problem for a program with a massive number of potential settings, many tucked away pretty well, making it very difficult to remember what to set.

There is the option of backing up %appdata%\vlc\vlcrc and then restoring it, but I'm not sure how well that works in the case where a later version is relying on a change there that would no longer exist once you've returned the file.
