Newbie with 1 questions please.

When i start VLC it opens up a box about 4" x 1" i then browse to where the file is i need to play and it plays no problem but the screen is say 4" x 4".I would like it nearly full screen but with the slider control at the bottom of the screen and also the file,view,setting etc visible at the top of the screen.
If i select full screen i do not get any of this and i cant grab the slider control as it is not visible.
Whilst it is the 4" x 4" screen i grab the bottom right and drag it to where i would like it but open shutdown the restart at a later date it is back to the 4" x 4" screen.
Had a look throught the settings but cant see anything.
Can someone give me some advice please.

Try just maximizing the window, perhaps?

Tried that but still reverts back to the 4 x 4.

If i select full screen it workd fine but then i have no slider etc
