Capture integrated webcam not working

Hi all, I just cannot figure out the solution to this seemingly simple problem.

I'm running the very latest version of VLC on a Lenovo Thinkpad with windows 10. I've tried installing new drivers for the webcam. The webcam works in other apps such as skype, but nothing happens when I select "integrated webcam" from the capture device window and hit play. The camera light turns on, and if I try to open the cam in a different app it says "being used" yet in VLC it's just a black screen.

I had no problems on a different laptop earlier today at work, so I know I've followed the correct procedure. In windows 10 settings under webcam privacy, there is not even an option to enable/disable VLC.

I'm totally stumpted. Just got no idea how to fix this. Anyone help much appreciated.

Anyone?

Can anyone even suggest a way that I can make windows 10 "see" VLC as an option under "choose apps which can use your camera" in the privacy settings? I cannot even figure out how to add new apps that do not already appear in the list. VLC does not appear in the list of apps that can use the camera. Surely this is some sort of windows 10 integration failure, but how/why??

So I reinstalled the latest version of VLC and updated the integrated camera drivers and now when I try to capture from integrated camera, VLC just crashes. Should I try an older more stable version or something? Any recommendations on which version for eaxmple?

Hi, I did have the same problem as you. Thinkpad, Win10, camera not working on VLC 2.2.6.
just found the solution.
My camera drivers are updated, at least to windows. My VLC doesn't crash when I try to use the camera. It turns the camera LED on.

So:
-Open capture device
-select direct show
-select integrated camera
-click on advanced options
-change picture aspect-ratio to 16:9
-click "device properties" to on
-click Play
choose Color Compression to YUY2, not RGB24
-Apply
-OK

and that's it. you should have your camera on screen now.
Cheers.

...you can save this settings, on preferences:

>Input / codecs
>>access modules
>>>DirectShow
Video size: 1280x720
Picture aspect ratio: 16:9
Video input chroma format: YUY2

and save.

Cheers.
